quick rant
today i was told i act white (whatever that means) and i am not dominican enough... i guess the fact that everyday i dream of sweet summer nights en el malecon, drinking presidente or brugal, eating platanos frito con salami and then un brownie a la moda de bon doesnt make me dominican enough... or maybe is cause everytime i hear juan luis guerra, sergio or kinito my feet start moving and soon enough my whole body is dancing merenge, or is it because i actually know the history of the dominican republic and have read more than a dozen books in spanish just cause i wanted to... and that every 27th of february i feel like i was there when duarte, sanchez and mella took over and gained our independence, that i know who enriquillo was, that i know that we are tainos, spanish and african, or that everytime i step into las americas i cry because i am happy and everytime i have to go i cry because i piece of hearts breaks...... although i really think it is because i was BORN in the dominican republic, RAISED in the dominican republic and my family still LIVES in the dominican republic... so dont tell ME i am not dominican enough, dont tell me i am acting white (there is nothing wrong with that)... but i just dont like when ignorant people tell me what i act like or not.....

I get that a lot too ... "You act so white!" ... Because I speak proper English and not ghetto English or because of the music I listen to or the places I hang out ...
But bitches don't know me! I fucking grew up and was raised in DR. I know more about Dominican history than there mo' fos' ... The subject makes me so angry!

I found your blog on the blog dominicanos site, and trust me, I can relate to all that you have written, including the I hate my job posts, but I'll get to that in another occassion.
If you don't speak f-ed up english, you act white. If you speak ok spanish, you act white. If you dare listen to anything that is not bachata y reggaeton, you act white. No se puede, ni se debe actuar mas que como uno mismo. I am Dominican too, dealing with this whole you don't act dominican enough BS. Frankly, I could care less what ppl say. Be whoever you want to be regardless of others. In the end, it's all about what you've lived and what you know...
